MP was such a unique surfer and competitor. Ted Spencer's quote - " it was cool to be an animal " definitely applied to a surfer who at the time was the most influential surfer to a generation. He was unstoppable for a period, out paddled, out surfed and out competed everyone. And the stories of his life are legendary. Don't ask me how he died ask me how he lived, a line for the Last Samurai but was made for MP.
